Fire and Life Safety Educational Web Pages Are YOU Ready? "The Climate Page"
Spring time in NW Ohio It is now Tornado and thunderstorm Season. Please make sure that you have a weather radio with you in the farm tractor or in the barn and of course at the house. Some things you need to know: Thunderstorm WATCH means that conditions are ripe for thunderstorms with strong winds to occur Tornado WATCH means that conditions are ripe for the formation of Tornados. Thunderstorm or Tornado WARNING means that a thunderstorm or Tornado is is progress and heading for you. TAKE COVER Where to go for Cover: A safe area should be the lowest level of your house and away from any glass- such as windows or doors. Try your basement as a first line of defense. If you do not have a basement then go to an inside closet, a stairwell or bathroom (and lie in the tub with covering). If you own a mobile home do not think that it will afford you protection in a severe thunderstorm with winds of 60 or 70 miles an hour and of course it will not in a Tornado. If you have time leave the mobile home and get to a more sturdy structure. When all else fails get into the closest ditch. (Source: Sentinel Tribune series: 3/28 and 29/06/ Skywarn Training 08) |
